Final Blog Post

For my final blog post I would like to compare my first Photoshop edit:

to my most recent photoshop edit:

I believe that I have made an insane amount of progress over the past couple months. I am very proud of where my editing abilities have taken me, and how much improvement I have made. I hope that my adventure to improve myself and expand my knowledge has been inspiring to those who also want to make improvements in their own lives.

Photography Competition

This year I have competed in three separate photography competitions. In April I went to Saskatoon and placed 13th out of 30 for photography in the Saskatchewan Provincial Skills Competition. My name is listed on their website as shown below:

I also entered the Regina High School Black and White contest and placed fourth in the “Nature” category.

Lastly, I entered the Finding Callista contest, however, there are no results yet.

Breaking News – My Own Tutorial

This week I created my own tutorial. I used an old blurry image of myself and my goal was to find a use for it. I accomplished this goal, in fact, this is my new favourite image that I have created.

I started with this image of myself taken in the school photography studio:006 Tutorial Before

Using the quick selection tool I cut myself out of this picture and put it over top of an image of newspaper. Using a paint brush tool with low opacity I painted over the news paper to add a rustic and worn out effect. I then added an image of old paper on top of the newspaper to make it stand out. Here are the two images that I used:

Lastly I erased part of my head and added a black and white filter to certain parts of my face. I used the filter gallery to make my face appear as a water painting. I then messed around with my levels, curves and saturation to achieve the perfect effect. This was my end result:

Editing Programs

There are many programs that I like to use to edit my photography. I will provide a list of photography apps that I like to use in order to edit pictures.

Photoshop – $20/month

Picsart – Free on Android and Apple

Photoshop – Free Version

Prisma – Free on Android and Apple

There are many more applications that assist in photo editing, but these ones are very user friendly and provide endless possibilities. Of course my favourite software is Photoshop, however, it costs $20/month which is $240 a year. Photoshop is not necessary because you can still produce amazing images with a free software!
